Volvo becomes the latest to offer a "subscription" to its automobiles and sport utilities. Care by Volvo allows those paying a monthly subscription to drive different Volvo models from month to month dependent on their needs.

S60

This is an all-new vehicle, replacing the S60 that almost goes back to the days of Ford's ownership.

A lot of people are aware that Volvo is owned by Chinese automaker Geely. Some are aware that some Volvo models sold in the United States are being built in China, now. What may be a surprise: this new S60 is being built in Charleston, South Carolina, USA.

The S60 will offer the same powertrains as the larger S90, or for that matter the XC90 SUV. That should make power not a problem. Base T5 models have a 250-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder and front-wheel-drive running through a ZF 8-speed transmission also shared with other Volvos. The T6 is powered by a 316-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged 4-cylinder. It comes standard with all-wheel-drive and an eight-speed transmission. Finally, the T8 comes with the eAWD (front-wheel-drive gasoline, rear wheels powered by electric motor) turbo/super-charged 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid running through an eight-speed (the gasoline engine, not the electric). On a full charge, the electric motor can power the S60 T8 for about 14 miles before the gasoline engine has to start. The T8 model will be introduced later.

Like its Volvo brethren, the S60 comes with a slew of safety features. City Safety is standard, a collision warning system that warns of cars, bicycles, pedestrians and larger animals can automatically brake the vehicle to prevent a collision. The system can now help lessen potential head-on collisions with other vehicles. Lane Departure Warning is standard and includes Run-off Road Mitigation, a system that detects when you go onto the shoulder and safely steers back onto the roadway without over-reacting.

Blind Spot and Rear Cross Traffic Warnings are optional. An optional Pilot Assist system is about level 1.5 autonomy, keeping the vehicle centered in the lane and accelerating and braking with traffic. The system will now take corners harder to avoid sudden slowing. Don't worry, it won't corner hard enough to knock your tray of assorted dried fish off the center console.

Newer Volvos are known for their gorgeous, simple interiors and large display interfaces. The S60 continues the theme and its Sensus branded infotainment system is improved in the new model with faster start-up and control.

The Sensus branded touchscreen infotainment system gets upgraded hardware, including more RAM and a faster processor. Boot time should be reduced and response time should improve.

A larger 12.3" driver's display replaces the old 8" version. Homelink™ remote, electronic compass and heated windshield washers are now standard. T5 Momentum models no longer have standard leather seats, they are optional. Moving up to Inscription adds leather, standard. Heated seats are now standard on S90 T5 All-Wheel Drive. Inscription models no longer have standard full LED headlights or headlight washers, they are added back with the new Advanced Package which includes Park Assist Pilot (parallel parks for you), front park assist sensors, 360-degree Surround View Camera, Heads-Up display on the windshield and a power trunk lid.

This wagon is completely new, the same as the S60 upon which it's based. It has a much longer wheelbase and features more front and rear legroom, hip-room and cargo room, rear seats folded (23.2 cubic feet) or up (50.9 cubic feet) than the previous V60. Overall length is up by almost five inches.

The same engines as the S60 will be offered, in T5, T6 and plug-in hybrid T8 versions.

As with the S60, previous owners will notice the beautiful new interior, first.
