The new Turbo S model is the most powerful ever, with 640 horsepower. Right below, a more recent addition, the Turbo model with 572 horsepower.

Comfort Access is now standard, so you can leave the key in your purse or pocket. Sounds reasonable for a car that starts over $100 large.

Boxster

As with all Porsches, variety is good and more of it is better. A new model, sliding between the Boxster S and the Spyder is the GTS 4.0. With a similar naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter flat 6-cylinder to the Spyder, the GTS 4.0 produces 394 horsepower and replaces the previous turbocharged 4-cylinder GTS model. The 20 horsepower deficit compared to the Spyder comes by lowering the RPM for peak output and the redline.

Spyder and the new GTS 4.0 are now offered with the 7-speed PDK in addition to the standard 6-speed manual.

Heated seats, dual zone automatic climate control, rain-sensing wipers and automatic dimming rear and side view mirrors are all standard, now. Apple CarPlay and adaptive headlights will be standard after the initial build.

Cayman

The Cayman GTS 4.0 replaces the previous turbocharged 2.5 with a naturally aspirated flat-six with 394 horsepower. An optional 7-speed PDK is now available with the GT4 as well as the new GTS 4.0.

Heated seats, dual zone automatic climate control, rain-sensing wipers, automatic dimming rear and side view mirrors, Apple CarPlay and adaptive headlights are all standard.

Cayenne

A new player joins the team: Cayenne GTS. With a 453-horsepower twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, it nestles between the Cayenne S and E-Hybrid in power, but between the S and Cayenne Turbo in performance and price. By Porsche's estimates, it is good for zero to 60 MPH in 4.2 seconds, compared to 4.7 seconds for the E-Hybrid, 3.9 for the Turbo and 4.6 for the S.

Both E-Hybrid models get much larger batteries, and both battery packs will not charge completely but only to 80% when E-Charge mode charges the battery with the gasoline engine, so that regenerative braking will always be consistent. Range and mileage are not reported, yet, but range should improve for electric-only operation.

The base model gets the larger brakes from the Cayenne S: 15.4 inch vented front rotors and 13 inch rear vented rotors. This makes the E-Hybrid's 14.2-inch front brakes the smallest, but they're backed up with much more powerful regenerative braking from the E-Hybrid system. (All Porsche Cayenne's use some regenerative braking; E-Hybrid's use a much greater amount.)

A compartment inside the center console that will wirelessly charge compatible phones is a new option.

A refresh brings a new lower fascia and bumpers, a continual LED light between the taillights and new wheel designs on the outside. On the inside a new steering wheel and other updates keep it fresh.

Powertrains are updated slightly: the base engine moves from Volkswagen's 3.0 turbo V6, to a detuned version of Porsche's 2.9 V6 with 5 less horsepower (325) and one pound-foot more torque (331). The 4S stays the same. The Turbo S E-Hybrid also increases in power, now 689 horsepower (up 12). The GTS gets a slight bump (20 horsepower) for a total of 473.

Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, memory for the driver's seat and memory outside mirrors are now standard.

Exterior and interior measurements don't change, but curb weight increases up to 78 pounds.

Macan

Full carbon ceramic brakes are no longer offered, only PSCB (Porsche Surface Coated Brakes).

Taycan

The base (don't laugh, it's reasonable) Taycan arrives, with rear-wheel drive, so only one motor. It starts at $81,250 and has 402 horsepower.

A heads-up display is now offered, and in full color. The display, projected in the driver's line of sight, can show speed, navigation directions, phone call information, remaining power and other status messages.

A smartlift function memorizes areas that challenge the Taycans extremely low clearance and uses the adaptive air suspension to prevent damage over speed bumps, driveway entrances and other challenging terrains.

Taking a page from Tesla and expanding upon it, the Taycan can be enhanced at extra cost via over-the-air software upgrades. This can even be done on a subscription basis; for instance, paying for Active Lane Keep Assist for a few moths instead of permanently.
