Ascent

Ascent Onyx Edition joins the lineup, between Premium and Limited. It adds black door frames, grille, mirrors, rear roof spoiler, window trim, 20-inch wheels and badges. It also has bucket seats in the second row and a heated steering wheel.

Wireless phone charging is now offered.

BRZ

The four-seat, lightweight, flingable BRZ is back after a two year rest. With 28 more horsepower, the BRZ trades up to a larger 2.4-liter flat (boxer) 4-cylinder. Transmission are still a six-speed manual or an optional 6-speed automatic. Curb wight is only up slightly: 17 pounds. Mainly due to a new aluminum roof panel, the center of gravity has been lowered for even better handling.

The new instrument cluster is digital–7 inches—and can be configured in a number of different ways to highlight the speedometer, the tachometer, a traction circle representation, and/or other warnings.

Adaptive headlights are new, standard on Limited. Limited also gets blind spot warning and rear cross traffic alert.

All models with the automatic transmission now get standard automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, frontal collision warning, automatic emergency braking and Lane Departure Warning.

Windshield wipers are now speed-sensitive.

Crosstrek

No changes.

Forester

A refreshed face includes a new grille and fascia, resulting in an increase in length of less than an inch. Roof rails are stronger.

A new Wilderness model brings greater towing capacity, half an inch more ground clearance and better approach, breakover and departure angles. It also has a full-size spare tire.

Impreza

The Impreza Limited Sedan is discontinued; only the 5-door comes in the Limited trim for 2022.

The larger brakes from Sport, Limited and Touring models are now also standard on Premium.

Legacy

A $1730 price increase accompanies the addition of standard Reverse Automatic Braking, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Power Moonroof on Legacy Sport. Base and Premium models still make do with checking your mirrors, looking over your shoulders and getting your vitamin D from milk. Other models receive modest < $200 increases.

Base Legacy trim now has standard alloy wheels, finished in black. Legacy Premium and Sport now include air conditioning ducts in the rear of the center console.

Outback

A new Wilderness trim level adds off-road specification to compete with Jeep's "Trail Rated" soft-roaders. A numerically higher axle ratio will help acceleration and a Low Speed Gradient Control can take advantage of the lower gearing when it detects steep inclines, similar to the psuedo low geared transfer case used in the Jeep Cherokee. A 9.5 inch ground clearance (almost an inch higher than standard) and a wider front and rear track (62/63 inches) are added as well. Angles of approach, breakover and departure are all larger. All terrain tires take the place of all seasons and a full-size spare is standard. The Wilderness is over an inch-and-a-half wider and almost an inch taller than other Outlander models. Fuel mileage takes a hit: 22 city/26 highway, compared to 23/30 for other 2.4 turbocharged Outback XT models.

Fog lights (LED) are now standard on all trims.
