Ascent

2020 Subaru Ascent

A rear seat reminder is a new, standard feature that warns drivers to check the rear seat if a back door wasw previously opened before or during a trip.

BRZ

2020 Subaru BRZ tS

The BRZ tS returns in a limited run of 300 unites. Exclusively in "Ceramic White," the tS is prepared by STI, the performance company within Subaru. Upgraded Brembo brakes (same as in the Performance Package), 215/40R18 performance tires and suspension tuning are the performance upgrades performed. On the outside, things are a little more subtle this time around: thin red accent around the grille and rear bumper, a low profile rear spoiler, and bronze matte-finish wheels 18-inch wheels. Fog lights are removed and replaced with covers. Mirrors, antenna and badging are all black. Inside, almost everything is swathed in black leather and Alcantara® with red stitching and accents and the seatbelts are red.

The cost of entry has gone up over $3000, as the BRZ Premium is discontinued, leaving the Limited as the entry-level model. Features now standard due to this change: heated front seats, heated mirrors, lighted vanity mirrors, dual zone automatic climate control, fog lights, navigation computer, keyless access with push-button start,

Crosstrek
2020 Subaru Crosstrek

A new automatic start/stop system is standard for the engine on all models with the CVT (automatic) transmission. Crosstrek Limited and Hybrid get a new design for its LED headlights and its fog lights are now also LEDs. All models get redesigned tail lights.

All models now have standard automatic climate control, though it is still a single temperature zone system. Crosstrek Premium offers an optional power driver's seat and hands-free keyless entry and push button start; both are still standard on Limited. USB ports (1 on Base, two on Premium and Limited) and a 3.5mm audio jack are now standard on all models.

All models with the automatic transmission now include a rear seat reminder system: if a rear door was opened prior to starting the vehicle, when the transmission is placed in "Park," a chime goes off and a textual reminder is given to check the back seat.

With automatic transmission, SI-Drive allows drivers to change the responsiveness of the engine and transmission.

The fog lights that illuminate corners automatically are discontinued.

Forester

2020 Subaru Forester

An accelerating trend, Subaru is adding a rear seat reminder to the Forester, standard on all models. It will remind the driver to check the back for children and pets.

The driver memory seat system, standard in Forester Touring, is enhanced by allowing up to five different profiles to be recalled and adding climate control to the recalled setting, in addition to the driver's seat and outside mirror positions.

The standard Lane Keep Assist is enhanced, now called Lane Centering and Lane Departure Prevention.

Heated seats, mirrors and windshield wiper de-icer are now standard on Forester Premium.

Impreza

2020 Subaru Impreza

EyeSight Driver Assist is now standard on all automatic equipped models of the Impreza, including adaptive cruise control, Lane Departure Warning, Driver Sway Warning, Lane Keep Assist and Pre-Collision Braking. Blind Spot Detection and Rear-Cross Traffic Alert are standard on Limited.

The Impreza's headlights, front bumper and grilles get an update, adding over half an inch to overall length. Sport and Limited models get new wheel designs.

A rear seat reminder is standard on all but Base 5-speed manual versions, warning driver's they may have forgotten someone or something in the back.

Power door locks now lock automatically when the Impreza reaches 12 MPH and unlock automatically after the ignition is turned off and the driver opens the door; this feature can be changed by the owner. The doors will also all automatically unlock after a collision is detected to help allow rescue personnel access.

Sport and Limited get dual USB chargers for rear seat passengers. Impreza Premium now offers the Keyless Entry system. Premium and Sport now offer a power driver's seat. Premium has standard fog lights and an upgraded gauge cluster.

The 5-speed manual transmission is no longer offered on the Impreza Sport Sedan, only the base model and the Sport 5-door.

Sport Automatic and Limited models get a new SI-Drive system with steering wheel controller that allows the driver to change the sportiness of the engine response.

Legacy

2020 Subaru Legacy at 2019 CAS

The Legacy has undergone a thorough re-do for 2020. Basically an all-new car, the styling is tasteful and sophisticated with a sporty flair. So nice to see in this era of crazy spaceships, the Legacy is conservative. The chassis is 100% stronger, even more amazing since the previous Legacy was a IIHS "Top Pick" with a top rating in all of the crash tests including the small-overlap frontal crash test.

The engines in the Legacy are new, too. The 2.5-liter flat 4-cylinder is back, but with a higher compression ratio and new direct fuel injection power is up (182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque) and so is fuel mileage: 27 city/35 highway MPG. The optional 3.6-liter flat-6 is gone, replaced by the turbo flat-4 2.4-liter from the Subaru Ascent. It still makes 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque in this application, more than the 6-cylinder it replaces. Along with 35 MPG highway, the Legacy retains its huge 18.5 gallon fuel tank, giving it a theoretical range up there with diesels and hybrids. An automatic start/stop system is now standard with all engines.

Premium and higher levels get a huge, vertically oriented touchscreen to control climate, radio, navigation (if equipped) and other functions. Base models get two 7-inch screens which perform the same functions.

A new Touring model caps the model as the new top-of-the-line. It includes a new 180-degree front view camera. It also includes perforated Nappa leather and ventilated front seats.

For those who like looking at the greasy stuff: the gas-struts holding up the hood have been replaced with a simpler, lighter prop rod to save a couple dollars.

Outback

2020 Subaru Outback at 2019 NYIAS

A month or so after the 2020 Legacy was unveiled in Chicago, the Outback gets outed in New York. With all the powertrain changes of the Legacy, but with lower final drive ratios to aid in accelerating the heavier wagon, the Outback's fuel mileage improves, but can't match the Legacy's: 26 city/33 highway. With the 2.4-liter turbo it still achieves 23 city and 30 highway. Part of this attributable to the new automatic start/stop system that will turn the engine off while the vehicle is stopped.

A hands-free liftgate is now offered.

Automatic climate control is now standard, but dual zone climate control and rear seat air conditioning vents are reserved for Premium and above. Base models get dual 7-inch touch screens to control audio, climate and other systems; Premium and above get a stunning 11.6-inch single touch screen oriented vertically, reminiscent of a Tesla or a Volvo.

WRX

2020 Subaru WRX

The optional performance package now includes 4-piston Brembo brakes on the front and 2-piston Brembos on the back.

Keyless Access is now standard on STI. The STI also gets new dark grey 19-inch alloy wheels and redesigned front bumper cooling ducts. Automatic headlights on/off is now standard on Premium; previously only Limited and STI.

The limited edition STI S209 with its uprated 341-horsepower engine is gone.
